Changelog

Full version history for Snapshot. Newest releases first.

v1.4.2

July 16, 2026
  • Preview thumbnails now render in a clean background Blender, immune to conflicts with other installed add-ons.

v1.4.1

July 16, 2026
  • Shared snapshot storage now covers baked light textures too — Light Wrangler Scrim patterns and similar are stored once and reused across snapshots, keeping files light in scrim-heavy setups.
  • Material sharing now works per material, so scenes with animated or driven shaders benefit fully as well.

v1.4.0

July 16, 2026
  • New shared snapshot storage — materials and the world environment are stored once and reused across snapshots. Dramatically smaller files and faster saves, especially in texture-heavy scenes.
  • The options menu now shows how much space your snapshots occupy in the file.
  • Improved Light Wrangler compatibility — Scrim lighting now restores exactly as saved.
  • Note: snapshots saved with 1.4.0 need 1.4.0 or newer to restore fully. Snapshots from older versions keep working as before.

v1.3.1

July 16, 2026
  • More reliable preview thumbnails — interrupted background renders are now detected and retried automatically.

v1.3.0

July 13, 2026
  • Switching between snapshots is now dramatically faster in large scenes — restores that used to freeze Blender for tens of seconds now happen almost instantly.

v1.2.1

July 7, 2026
  • New Wipe and Difference comparison modes in the Snapshot Result viewer — drag a divider between two snapshots, or see exactly what changed between A and B.
  • New False Color view for reading a snapshot's exposure and tonal range at a glance.
  • Hold the backslash key to peek the previously viewed snapshot for a quick before/after.
  • Refreshed the comparison viewer with a cleaner, native-style control bar and tidier on-image tools.
  • Snapshot Result viewer fixes: the A/B toggle now updates live, previews refresh automatically as they finish rendering, and images display faster.
  • Preview thumbnails now render even when you save without a 3D viewport open.

v1.2.0

July 7, 2026
  • Gaffer compatibility — snapshots now capture and restore Gaffer's light solo state and world-lighting visibility toggles.
  • Light Wrangler light isolation is now captured, so a snapshot taken while a light is isolated restores correctly.
  • Now compatible with Blender 5.2.

v1.1.0

July 3, 2026
  • New Preview Quality setting (Standard, High, Ultra) renders snapshot thumbnails at higher resolution and quality.
  • New option to hide viewport-hidden objects from previews, so thumbnails match what you see in the viewport instead of a full render.

v1.0.0

July 2, 2026

Stable Release

  • Snapshot leaves beta. After months of hardening the save and restore engine on real production scenes, the 1.0 release marks Snapshot as stable for everyday look-dev work.
  • Full feature set: save and restore complete scene setups, A/B comparison, elimination rounds, the Image Editor filmstrip, and Light Wrangler, PolyDome, and LensSim compatibility.
  • Verified across Blender 4.0–5.1.

v0.3.3

June 24, 2026
  • Fix: Snapshot previews showing "No Preview" instead of rendering on Blender 4.x.
  • macOS: the background preview renderer no longer appears in the Dock.

v0.3.2

June 23, 2026
  • Fix: A duplicate, unresponsive filmstrip could appear in the Image Editor after updating or re-enabling the add-on.

v0.3.1

March 21, 2026
  • Fix: Objects created by mesh Separate hidden when restoring an older snapshot.
  • Fix: Materials lost on separated mesh parts after snapshot restore.

v0.3.0

March 20, 2026
  • LensSim addon support: full save/restore of camera helpers, pointer properties, and custom shaders.
  • Fix: Camera depth-of-field focus object lost on snapshot restore.

v0.2.11

  • Fix: Materials assigned inside Geometry Nodes (e.g. Set Material) lost on snapshot restore.

v0.2.10

  • Fix: Snapshot preview failing to render in scenes with video (FFMPEG) output.
  • Fix: Stale thumbnail from previous file appearing after switching Blender files.

  • Fix: Light Wrangler "Keep Upright" flag not working after snapshot restore.
